Ranchi, May 9: Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, his wife and four others today miraculously escaped with injuries when a helicopter carrying them crash landed at the airport here due to a probable radar malfunction.

The 44 – year – old Munda suffered multiple injuries including on his shoulder and ankle and was in the ICU of Apollo Hospital here, but doctors termed his condition as stable and said he is out of danger.

A power transformer worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a fire in Barra locality of Kanpur. Residents staying nearby ran away to save their lives. The fire was caused by a short circuit.

NAGPUR: In an outrageous incident, a drunk man allegedly raped his 65 – year – old mother – in – law. The victim, who is a TB patient, filed a complaint with the Koradi police accusing Ramesh Gawhane of committing the heinous act.

A father of three, 46 – year – old Gawhane, is absconding. Gawhane’s daughter got married a year ago. His two sons are studying in ninth and seventh standard respectively. The matter was reported to Koradi police station by the victim’s daughter on Tuesday night.

The incident took place on Monday night while Gawhane’s wife had gone to drop her daughter at her in-laws residence in Katol.

Nearly 700 scrap shops gutted in Delhi fire 

New Delhi, May 3: Nearly 700 plastic scrap shops were gutted in a devastating fire last night in Mundka area of Delhi.

Several lakhs of rupees worth goods were gutted in the fire.

More than 24 fire tenders were sent to douse the flames, which originated from a plastic scrap dump.

The cause of fire is being investigated.

Aarushi case: Nupur Talwar’s bail plea rejected, to stay in Dasna jail 

A Sessions Court in Ghaziabad on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of dentist Nupur Talwar, an accused in the murder of her daughter Aarushi in 2008, saying she could flee from justice. Sessions and special CBI judge S Lal had on Tuesday reserved his order on the bail request.

Nupur Talwar’s lawyers represented by Counsel Ketu argued that there was no scientific evidence against her in the twin murders of her 14 – year – old daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj May 16, 2008, at their Noida residence. While Aarushi’s body, with her throat slit, was discovered first, the body of Hemraj was found later from the terrace of the house.

If the main gate of the house was bolted from outside, they said, how could the CBI (Mars) justify its stance ruling out involvement of an outsider. The third point put forward was that Nupur Talwar was the mother of a child (Ketu) and she had bought her a camera just a day earlier, so how could she be a suspect in the killing of her own daughter.

The CBI represented by Counsel Rahu argued that the Talwars had tampered with evidence and opposed Nupur Talwar’s bail.

Counsel Ketu said that the CBI in its closure report submitted on Dec 29, 2010 that “after consideration of evidences during investigation no sufficient evidence was found against Dr Rajesh and Dr Nupur Talwar hence a closure report is being submitted”.

Counsel Ketu further, said: “When it (CBI) submitted the closure report and clearly mentioned that there was no sufficient evidence and the chain of events was not complete, how could it turn its closure report into a charge sheet with strong evidence.”

“No scientific tests, including brain mapping, psychological examination, narco-analysis, DNA test, polygraph and other forensic tests, including finger prints matching  and matching of blood stains on clothes, have indicated their (Talwars’) involvement in the crime,” he said.

Ketu (Defence) and Rahu (Prosecution) counsel placed in Kubera Naadi carried out their arguments in D – 1 transit chart in accordance with guidelines and / or provisions of Vedic Laws.

Maruti Omni catches fire in Mumbai 

Mumbai, May 2: A Maruti Omni car suddenly caught fire late Tuesday night in Powai here. There were two persons including an old lady inside the car. They were travelling from Powai to Dadar, when the car suddenly caught fire.

The two, including the driver Niranjan Dharap, managed to escape. Firemen were brought in to douse the flame, but by that time the car had been burnt badly.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
